We've been running Nozawa Peaks since 2017. Set just outside the village centre, it works particularly well if you're here to ski — the lifts are four minutes away on foot, with restaurants and hot spring baths a short walk in the other direction. It's the kind of place our guests come back to year after year.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Comfortable, unpretentious, Japanese-style
The rooms have tatami flooring, a woven straw material traditional to Japanese guesthouses. We've upgraded the beds to firm futon-style mattresses with warm down duvets. The building itself is traditional, which means the walls are thin and sound carries. We mention this to every guest at check-in, but it's better to know before you arrive. Our staff speak English. For guests who haven't stayed in a Japanese guesthouse before, most find it genuinely enjoyable — there's something about the style that a hotel just doesn't have.
We fill up quickly each season and we're selective about bookings — not because we're trying to be exclusive, but because the right guests tend to have a much better time here than the wrong ones.
A note on large groups: We don't accept bookings for groups of 8 or more. In a small guesthouse with shared facilities, large groups naturally synchronise — same shower time, same kitchen time — which makes it difficult for other guests to use those spaces comfortably. We'd rather be upfront about this than have anyone disappointed on arrival.
How long can you stay?
We're winter season only and have minimum stay requirements that vary by period. Most guests tell us they wish they'd stayed longer.
